So, I thought that I wanted a new Palm Pilot a few months back. But then I got the bad news that Palm OS's wouldn't be supporting Macintosh computers anymore (boooo to them). Yeah, there is other software around that would do the trick, other ways to work around it, and the possibility that Palm OS's may come back to the Mac. But, having the shopping problem that I have (always "wanting" the better product that cost more even thought I don't need it nor can I afford it) I decided to wait. I couldn't justify spending a few hundred on a new Palm Pilot and not having it do what I wanted it to do. Really, what I would do with the PDA would be to take a few notes, write down some phone numbers, maybe make some sketches, etc. However, in my past experiences, inputting text, drawings, etc., are rather tedious.
So my solution? A Moleskine Notebook. I chose the "squares" styles, basically graphpaper. It's 3 1/2" X 5 1/2" and fits in my back pocket or a jacket pocket. It's great, I just jot down anything and it's in there. No battery needed, no accidental loss of data, no cables, it's great! You can find them at the Harvard Coop in Harvard Sq. It's a small black book (which can also be used as a coaster, BRILLIANT!).
Why did I choose the Moleskine Notebook? It was cool and a bit different, but ordinary. Also, it didn't hurt that a few famous folk used one: Hemingway, van Gogh, and Picasso to name a few. It uses acid free paper pages that are thread bound. It has a cardboard bound cover with rounded corners and an elastic closure. And a secret expandable inner pocket made of cardboard
and cloth that contains...
