Japan: Keychain Plants

SorobanGeeks has pictures of what they say is the latest fad in Japan: keychain plants. Those Japanese, they are a silly bunch... Each one sells for around $10 and features real, live plants that grow in a tiny arboretum until they become too large to be contained, after which they can be transplanted to a larger pot.

So what happens when you break the arboretum? Do you just have to transfer it then? What if you aren't near your house? And I don't know about you, but my keys are made of metal, they are hard, not soft.
