Yes, I'm sure many of you saw the picture on Boston.com yesterday, but I actually read the article. It was fascinating, straight out of "iRobot". You pull your car into a "garage", which is much smaller than a conventional garage. Leave the keys in the car, the door unlocked, and walk away. No, the car doesn't turn over, or sideways, or fold into a small credit card (yet), it simply lifts and glides into a open space.
I saw a video from CNN (you can find more on their site) on this type of garage in New Jersey. Apparently there one of these garages exist in Cambridge (I'm going to try to find it this weekend, if it doesn't snow). Also, a major hospital, here in Boston, is looking in to building one that holds about 400+ cars. Here is a snippet from Boston.com:
"... Imagine pulling into a parking garage, swiping an access card, driving on to a steel pallet, turning off the engine, and walking away as your car is automatically turned 180 degrees, is swiped by a life-sensing detector to make sure it is empty, and is carried away for storage by a computer-operated lift. Upon your return, you swipe your card again. Within two minutes your vehicle is returned, your account is charged, and you whisk away without needing to navigate a damp elevator, pay an attendant, look for scratches, or endure the ugly panorama of yet another concrete parking monstrosity..."
